HP Indigo press ws4050 empowers Commercial Label Products with the digital edge

New digital facility installed to capture greater
business opportunities in the short-run label,
sachet and shrink sleeve market
Cheshire-based label printer, Commercial Label Products Ltd, has entered the industrial digital printing market by installing an HP Indigo press ws4050 in the last two months. The investment will enable the printer to provide new services to customers seeking cost-effective short-run and variable data labels, as well as new product offerings in the shrink sleeve and sachet markets.
Nigel Painton, managing director of Commercial Label Products said, “Our investment in the HP Indigo press ws4050, was made having identified an increasing demand from customers for high quality short-run label applications. In order to cost-effectively meet this demand, without compromising on quality, the HP Indigo press was the only solution.”
The press harnesses HP’s unique liquid ElectroInk technology to produce a quality comparable to offset, achieving 97% of Pantone colours and white on a broad range of substrates including bright silver. The HP Indigo press ws4050 can easily print on sensitive, thin films, as less heat is emitted during the production process.
“This is a key feature of the press that we hope to take advantage of in the shrink-sleeve and sachet markets, something we previously did not have the capacity to cater for,” said Nigel
The new digital facility is opening a host of extended opportunities for Commercial Label Product’s customers.
“We recently delivered a demanding job for a client that produces tracking devices for the automotive industry. The 5-colour (including white) on silver paper labels comprised of a series of three variable data options, in a run-length of 5000. Using the HP Indigo press ws4050 we completed the job within three hours. This would have taken two days on a conventional press, with each series having to be run through separately.”
“This new facility is allowing us to explore avenues such as offering customers a re-issuing service with no plate costs, where they can simply update the information on existing labels as and when the data changes,” said Nigel.
Time savings not only benefit customers, it also allows Commercial Label Products greater capacity to take on new work, maximising the profitability of the press.
“As well as opening up new opportunities in the variable data market, we can offer our customers a greater level of service. We are currently offering clients with a ‘Free of charge’ digitally printed proof as we are confident that the customer will go on to order having seen the outstanding quality. It’s additional services like this that will help us to secure our already loyal customer-base, and attract new customers at the same time,” said Nigel.
Commercial Label Products is a privately owned printer that has been delivering quality short-to-medium run labels, in up to 8 colours, for over 25 years. The company places great emphasis on offering customers the greatest range of services at the best value, by keeping all production in-house, from design and pre-press through to printing, finishing and dispatching.
“Entering the digital market with the HP Indigo press ws4050 is a natural way for Commercial Label Products to evolve its business in a new direction of profitability and growth. Within two months the investment is already showing great potential for extending services for existing customers as well as opening routes into new markets. For long-term growth, the possibilities are infinite,” said Paul Randall, UK marketing manager, HP Indigo Digital Press Division.
